Bay Rockets Girls Cross Country Secures Second Place at the Cleveland West Conference Championship

The Bay High School Girls Cross Country team competed in the Cleveland West Conference Championship on October 11, 2025, at Medina Buckeye High School. The Rockets finished an impressive second, just four points behind first-place Rocky River in a spirited contest that saw several schools from the area compete. In a close final team scoring, Rocky River topped the chart with 39 points followed closely by Bay High School at 43 points. Westlake secured third with 53 points, showcasing the competitive nature of the championship. Other schools like Lakewood, Buckeye, Normandy, and North Olmsted rounded out the scoring with 130, 136, 153, and 191 points respectively. Highlighting individual performances for the Rockets, Maya Gonzalez led the charge by clinching the first place with an outstanding time of 18:42, becoming the CWC Conference Champion. Further contributing to the team's success, Clare Messmore and Anika Schulz secured places in the First Team All CWC by finishing 7th and 8th respectively. Clare clocked a time of 19:34 and Anika followed closely at 19:56. Additional commendable performances included Anne Weber and Elyse Edelman, who placed 13th and 14th respectively, both also securing positions in the Second Team All CWC. Reflecting on the team's performance, Coach Scott Snyder expressed immense pride in his team, stating, 'Our top 7 ran an incredible race with our top 7 athletes all finishing in the top 20. This was our best team race of the season.' The Bay Rockets are now setting their sights on their next challenge at the Division 2 District Meet scheduled for October 18, 2025, at Lorain County Community College. The team looks to build on their strong performance in hopes of advancing further in the postseason competitions.
