Bay Rockets Girls Cross Country Team Secures Second Place at Vermilion Obenour Invitational

In a competitive display at the Vermilion Obenour Invitational on September 27, 2025, the Bay High School Rockets' girls cross country team clinched a commendable second place. The event took place in Vermilion, Ohio, and drew participation from several schools including Padua, Firelands, Midview, Hearts for Jesus, Oberlin, Lake Ridge, Elyria Catholic, Lutheran West, North Ridgeville, and host Vermilion. The Bay Rockets accumulated 76 points to finish in second place. Key performances came from Kai Ripley who finished 7th with a time of 21:45, and Claire Shearer who took 16th place in 22:27. Also contributing significantly were Grace Kelly in 17th place at 22:29, Lily Lawnicki in 20th at 22:54, and Chloe Vincent, who finished just behind at 22:55. In a separate Open race, Addie Patrick topped the charts by securing a first-place finish with a time of 24:12. Coach Scott Snyder expressed his appreciation for how the team positioned themselves early in the race, which was pivotal in securing the runner-up position. The strategy to maintain a tight spread of just over a minute among the top five Rockets proved effective, even in the challenging course conditions, which were not conducive to fast times this year. Looking ahead, the Rockets' next challenge will be at the Medina Milt Place Invitational, scheduled to occur on October 4, 2025, at Ella Canavan Elementary School in Medina. The team looks to continue its strong performances as they progress through the season.
