Bay Rockets Overcome Brookside in Thrilling Varsity Basketball Comeback

In a sensational display of teamwork and determination, the Bay Rockets varsity basketball team staged an impressive comeback to claim a 59-56 victory over the Brookside Cardinals on January 14, at Bay High School. This remarkable win sets the Rockets' season record at 9-5, including a 4-3 tally in the Cleveland West Conference.

The match began in favor of the Cardinals, with Brookside leading 40-26 at halftime. However, the tide turned in the second half, spearheaded by senior Collin Melvin, who scored a team-high 18 points. Joining him were Max Cockburn with 16 points and Caleb Rinehart contributing 10 points to the Rockets' cause. The remarkable team effort was epitomized by 'Light The Fuse Player of the Game,' senior Tommy Mack, who not only secured 13 rebounds but also set a career-high with 5 blocks, playing a pivotal role in the Rockets’ defensive strategy.

A critical factor in the comeback was Bay's defensive performance in the final quarter, holding the Brookside squad to just 5 points. This defensive stronghold changed the game's momentum, setting the stage for Bay’s victory. Reflecting on the team's performance, Collin Melvin noted, "I think we understand it now. Everyone did their part and when we play like a team we can do so much more than when we play as individuals."
