Bay Rockets Roll Past Cardinal Mooney 7-0 Behind Oliver Marotta Brace
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Captain #12 Oliver Marotta scored twice and five teammates added goals as Bay High School’s varsity boys soccer team powered past Cardinal Mooney 7-0 on Saturday, Aug. 29. The Rockets’ balanced scoring barrage proved decisive in the 2:30 p.m. match, giving the program an impressive road result under mainly clear skies.
Oliver Marotta led the attack with the team’s only multi-goal performance. The captain’s two finishes accounted for nearly a third of Bay’s scoring and provided the centerpiece of an afternoon in which the Rockets repeatedly turned attacking opportunities into goals.
Bay’s depth made the final margin possible. Captain #11 Jonah Czarnecki, #4 Elliot Beal, #16 Sam Farrar, #7 Weston Matty and #6 Will Kralik each scored once. With six different players finding the net, Cardinal Mooney had to contend with threats from throughout the Rockets’ lineup.
The performance was just as strong at the other end of the field. Bay’s defensive unit completed the shutout while the attack built a seven-goal advantage. That combination of finishing and defensive discipline allowed the Rockets to leave Youngstown with a complete team victory.
Played in 70-degree weather with a light 7 mph wind, the match offered the Rockets an opportunity to showcase both leadership and scoring depth. The two-goal outing from Oliver Marotta, contributions from five additional scorers and a clean sheet gave Bay plenty to celebrate after a commanding 7-0 result.
