Bay Rockets Shoot 163 Behind Career-Low Rounds at Briarpatch

Bay High School’s young boys golf team posted a 163 in a close match against Avon Lake on Monday, Aug. 24, at Briarpatch in Avon Lake. Avon Lake finished with a 155, but the eight-stroke margin reflected a competitive showing by the Rockets against the Shoremen’s junior- and sophomore-led lineup.

Freshmen delivered several of Bay’s top performances. Robert Pinkeva led the listed finishers with a career-low 39, while Berry and Jack McAllester each recorded a 40. Joe Boushelle completed the Rockets’ four-player team total with a season-best 44. The four scores added up to Bay’s 163 and demonstrated the potential of a developing group.

The Rockets received a career-low 39 from freshman Robert Pinkava, whose short game and putting helped set the pace. Robert also relied on touch around the greens and a steady putter during the round. Robert provided another early highlight on the par-3 second hole, draining a 12-foot birdie putt to ignite the round.

Bay continued to create scoring opportunities later in the match. Freshman Berry and Jack McAllester played high-level golf on the way to rounds of 40. On the par-4 seventh hole, Max struck a 6-iron to within 2 feet of the cup and converted the birdie. Jack matched that result on No. 7 in more dramatic fashion, chipping in from behind the green for birdie.

Boushelle’s iron play was central to the best round of the season. On the par-3 second, Boushelle placed the tee shot within 8 feet and calmly rolled in the putt for a 2. With multiple freshmen producing low scores and several Rockets making birdies on key holes, Bay stayed within reach of a more experienced Avon Lake squad and left Briarpatch with its young lineup’s potential on full display.
