Bay Rockets Swimming/Diving: Boys excel against Westlake, Girls have strong showing.

In an exhilarating display of aquatic skills, Bay High School's swimming and diving teams faced off against Westlake High School at the Westlake Rec Center, marking another competitive event in their regular season. The Rockets' boys team clinched a narrow victory with a score of 90-87, while the girls team put up a strong fight but fell short with a score of 74-99. Bay High School's boys team showcased their unbeaten prowess throughout the regular season, maintaining their undefeated streak after two meets. Senior Aaron Bernys led the charge by claiming first in both the 200 Individual Medley and 500 Freestyle. Similarly, sophomore Luke Filiatraut dominated in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly, and junior Ollie Brown secured wins in the 100 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke. Freshman Liam Jagger also made significant contributions, finishing second in the 100 Backstroke. The boys team also triumphed in the relay events, winning the 200 Medley (Filiatraut, Brown, Bernys, Allan) with a 1:48.52 and 400 Freestyle (Bernys, Myers, Brown, Filiatraut) with a 3:32.84 respectively. Divers Charlie Vatolin and Bennett Bourn also excelled, securing top spots in the diving segment. Vatolin placed 1st with a 213.97 and Bourn placed 2nd with a 169.80. On the girls' side, the Rockets witnessed several commendable performances. Senior Gwynn Miller outpaced her competitors in the 200 Freestyle, while junior Cecilia Gomez captured a notable win in the 500 Freestyle. Freshman Moriah Murtha showcased promising potential, placing second in both the 50 and 100 Freestyle. Freshman Emery Ziemnik contributed strongly as well, securing second place in the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Butterfly. Senior Belle Dent dominated the diving events for the girls, amassing a score of 175.43. Overall, the event was a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Rockets' swimmers and divers, demonstrating their ability to compete at high levels and promising more thrilling performances in future meets.
