Bay Rockets Girls Basketball Uses Season-Best Third Quarter to Cruise Past Elyria
Bay Girls Basketball controlled the game from start to finish Tuesday night, defeating Elyria 64-29 at Bay High School behind a dominant third quarter and a balanced offensive attack.
The Rockets led wire to wire, but the game opened competitively as Elyria matched Bay’s energy early. Bay held a 12-6 advantage after the first quarter before tightening its defense and finding more rhythm on offense. By halftime, the Rockets had methodically built a 31-14 lead, gaining separation with improved ball movement and pressure on the defensive end.
The decisive stretch came in the third quarter, when Bay delivered its best offensive period of the season. The Rockets exploded for 27 points in the frame while limiting Elyria to just 5, effectively putting the game out of reach. That surge pushed the lead well into double figures and allowed Bay to control the tempo the rest of the way.
Madelyn Lee paced the Rockets with 15 points and 5 rebounds, providing consistent scoring and a strong presence on the glass. Norah Trefz added 12 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists, contributing both as a finisher and facilitator within the offense. The pair led a group of three players in double figures and helped anchor Bay’s scoring throughout the night.
Defensively, Bay set the tone with active hands and pressure on the perimeter. Anna Weingart finished with 11 points, a season high for her, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 6 steals, repeatedly disrupting Elyria’s passing lanes and turning turnovers into transition opportunities. Chloe Kazma also made her mark on that end with 7 points, 3 rebounds and 4 steals, further fueling the Rockets’ ability to create offense from defense.
Inside, Anna Spellman provided steady production with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists, helping Bay control the boards and keep the offense flowing from the interior. In all, eight Rockets scored baskets, underscoring the team’s depth and unselfish play. With multiple contributors and a season-high quarter powering the effort, Bay closed out a convincing 64-29 victory over Elyria.
The win highlighted the Rockets’ ability to combine balanced scoring with disruptive defense, offering a strong blueprint as the team moves deeper into the season. The Rockets travel to Normandy High School on Saturday to take on the Invaders in a CWC rematch from earlier this season.
