Bay Sweeps Normandy 5-0 Behind Dominant Singles and Doubles Play

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bay High School won every flight in straight sets Wednesday, earning a 5-0 varsity girls tennis victory at Normandy. The Rockets claimed three singles matches and two doubles matches while limiting Normandy to 13 games across the five flights.

Bay set the tone with a commanding performance at first singles. Blaire Glass recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory, giving the Rockets a point without dropping a game. The shutout result also highlighted Blairs Glass among Bay’s key performers as the Rockets established control of the match.

Savannah Keberdle added another straight-set victory at second singles. After taking the opening set 6-3, Keberdle became even more effective in the second and closed out the flight 6-1. Elizabeth Steele completed Bay’s singles sweep at third singles, winning 6-2, 6-1.

The Rockets were just as effective in doubles. Ella Schelzig and Madeline Hahoney rolled through the first set at first doubles without surrendering a game, then finished their 6-0, 6-2 victory with another controlled set. Their performance accounted for Bay’s fourth straight-set result.

At second doubles, Maura Mahoney and Mikayla Long secured the final point with a 6-1, 6-3 win. The pair allowed only four games and kept Bay’s perfect team score intact, completing a sweep in which the Rockets won all 10 sets played.

Played in partly cloudy conditions with a temperature of 76 degrees, the match gave Bay a complete team result across the lineup. The Rockets’ singles players combined to lose eight games, while the two doubles teams surrendered five in a decisive road performance.
