Bay Varsity Girls Golf Wins One-Stroke Tiebreaker Over Columbia After 238-238 Tie

NIck Pacholski | Bay High School | Aug 10, 2026

Bay High School secured the narrowest possible victory Friday, Aug. 7, defeating Columbia by one stroke in a tiebreaker after the girls golf teams finished tied at 238 at Pine Brook Golf Links.

Soggy conditions made scoring difficult throughout the match. Only one golfer in the field broke 50, placing added importance on steady play and limiting mistakes. The Rockets received four rounds between 53 and 65 to stay even with Columbia through the final hole.

Caroline Kousaie led Bay with a 53, the Rockets’ lowest score of the match. Ella Taulbee followed with a 57, while Stella Turrall carded a 63 and Charlotte Hofelich completed the scoring with a 65. Those four scores combined for Bay’s team total of 238.

The decisive sequence came on the ninth hole, where senior Ella Taulbee faced a difficult finish in only the second match of her career. After a shot found the water hazard and cost her a stroke, Ella Taulbee recovered well enough to give herself a chance on the green. She converted the clutch putt, helping Bay pull even at 238 and extending the match to the tiebreak procedure.

With the regulation team totals deadlocked, the result came down to the additional score used for the tiebreaker. Bay held a one-stroke advantage there, turning Ella Taulbee’s recovery and final putt into a victory. On an afternoon when wet conditions left little margin for error, the Rockets combined four counting scores with a key ninth-hole finish to edge Columbia. Bay moved to 2-1 in dual matches after the first week of play. The Rockets will travel to Ridgewood Golf Course on Tuesday for the Flamingo Frenzy Tournament.
