Boys Golf Faces Tough Competition at Strongsville Invite

The Bay High School Rockets Golf team participated in the Strongsville Invite held at Bunker Hill Golf Course, Medina, Ohio on August 14, 2026. Competing in the Varsity Boys division, the team faced varied weather conditions including sunny skies, temperatures in the mid-80s, and a steady 10 mph wind. The 18-hole stroke play tournament saw the Rockets placing 11th with a team score of 354. Top individual performances came from Matthew Mileti, who scored an 82 with three birdies, and Emmitt Naughton, who shot an 85 including two birdies. Ryan Skryp contributed with a score of 92, performing commendably on his final 9 holes with a score of 39, while Jack Wunder recorded a score of 95. Key moments included Mileti's consecutive birdies early in the round, which provided an early boost, and crucial back nine scores from Emmitt Naughton and Ryan Skryp, which were pivotal in moving up the leaderboard. According to the Rockets' coach, the team exhibited great poise on the challenging course. He noted that the players adjusted well to the rough and quickly became acclimated to the fast greens. Emmitt Naughton shared his satisfaction with his performance, particularly on the back nine, describing Bunker Hills as a 'fun course' and expressing eagerness to return next year. Looking ahead, the Rockets are set to compete in the Cleveland West Conference 2nd Round at Seneca Golf Course. The team's current season record stands at 42 wins and 36 losses. This upcoming tournament is an excellent opportunity for the team to improve their standings and showcase the resilience and skill they have developed throughout the season.
