Cold Fourth Quarter Sends Bay Rockets Boys Basketball to 61-47 Loss at Normandy

A cold-shooting fourth quarter proved costly for Bay High School on Friday night, as the Bay Rockets Boys Basketball team fell 61-47 to Normandy in a Cleveland West Conference matchup at Normandy High School.

The game was tightly contested through the early stages, with both defenses setting the tone in the first quarter. Normandy held a slim 11-10 edge after the opening eight minutes, and the Rockets continued to battle to keep the margin within reach. By halftime, however, the Invaders had put together just enough offense to build a 32-25 lead, forcing Bay to play from behind the rest of the way.

Bay responded after the break with improved execution and energy, working to chip away at the deficit in the third quarter. The Rockets tightened up defensively and generated better looks on the offensive end, leaning on ball movement and activity on the glass to stay within striking distance. Despite the effort, Normandy continued to answer with timely baskets, preventing Bay from mounting a sustained run to erase the halftime gap.

The decisive stretch came in the fourth quarter, when the Rockets struggled to score and the Invaders pulled away for good. Bay’s offense, which had kept the team in contention through three quarters, stalled over the final eight minutes as Normandy extended its lead into double digits. The 14-point margin at the final horn reflected the Invaders’ late surge and the Rockets’ difficulty converting possessions down the stretch.

Ryan Miller led the Rockets with 12 points and added five rebounds, providing consistent scoring throughout the night. Kelan Rose gave Bay another strong perimeter presence with 10 points, two steals and two assists, impacting both ends of the floor. Brody Beggs contributed eight points along with two steals and four rebounds, helping fuel Bay’s defensive effort and transition opportunities.

Bay also received key contributions in the supporting stat lines. Jack Bly secured five rebounds, helping the Rockets compete on the interior against Normandy’s frontcourt. Emmitt Naughton ran the offense efficiently, finishing with five assists as he helped create scoring chances for teammates in the half-court and in transition. Despite the balanced production, Bay’s offensive drought in the final quarter proved too much to overcome against a Normandy team that capitalized late.

The Rockets will look to build on the positives. With multiple players contributing across the box score, Bay has a foundation to draw from as it prepares for its next matchup this Tuesday, January 20th, as they host the Buckeye Bucks.
