Cold shooting dooms Bay Rockets Boys Basketball in 62-43 loss at Brookside

Bay Rockets Boys Basketball never found its shooting touch Tuesday night, falling 62-43 to Brookside in a non-conference matchup at Brookside High School.

Brookside controlled the game from the opening tip, building a lead in the first quarter and never surrendering it. Bay’s best push came in the second quarter, when the Rockets trimmed the deficit to 18-14 and briefly seized momentum with improved defensive pressure and more aggressive drives to the basket. However, the Cardinals responded with timely scoring of their own and rebuilt the margin before halftime, capitalizing on Bay’s continued struggles from the field.

Offensively, the Rockets endured their worst shooting performance of the season, finishing with a season-low in team field-goal percentage. Missed opportunities in the paint and from the perimeter prevented Bay from sustaining runs, even when the defense forced turnovers or long possessions from Brookside. As the game moved into the second half, the shooting woes persisted, and Brookside steadily extended its advantage with balanced scoring and efficient execution in the half-court.

Despite the loss, several Rockets turned in notable efforts. Kelan Rose led Bay with 14 points and added four rebounds, providing consistent scoring when the offense needed a lift. Ryan Miller followed with 13 points and three steals, sparking the defense with his activity in the passing lanes and on-ball pressure. Emmitt Naughton added eight points, helping keep Bay within striking distance during stretches of the second and third quarters.

On the glass, Bay received solid contributions from multiple players. Jack Bly and Jackson Smith each grabbed four rebounds, battling on the interior to limit Brookside to one shot on several possessions. Brody Beggs filled the stat sheet with four rebounds and four assists, helping facilitate the offense and create looks for teammates, even as shots continued to rim out for the Rockets.

Brookside’s ability to maintain its lead from start to finish ultimately defined the night. Whenever Bay appeared poised to make a push—most notably when the Rockets closed the gap to four points in the second quarter—the Cardinals answered with baskets that stemmed the momentum. By the fourth quarter, Bay was forced to play from behind against a set defense, and Brookside was able to manage the clock and close out the game.

The Rockets will host rival Rocky River on Friday, January 30th, for a Varsity Boys/Girls Doubleheader.
