Fourth-Quarter Surge, Trefz’s Late 3, Lift Bay Girls Basketball Over Midview, 61-55

Bay Girls Basketball used a dominant fourth quarter and a clutch 3 from Norah Trefz to rally past Midview 61-55 on Thursday night at Bay High School. Trefz hit the shot of the game with a 3 and a foul with 1:38 remaining to break a 52-52 tie, giving the Rockets a lead they never relinquished as they closed out the non-conference win.

Midview controlled the early stages, jumping out to a 19-11 lead after the first quarter behind efficient offense and a strong start on the glass. Bay steadily settled in during the second quarter, tightening defensively and chipping away at the deficit. The Rockets pulled within one at halftime, 27-26, after a key defensive play from Caroline Chilton, whose steal set up a layup by Madelyn Lee with 1.2 seconds left in the half.

The back-and-forth continued through the third quarter, with neither team able to create separation. Midview carried a narrow 47-46 advantage into the fourth, setting up a tense final eight minutes. Bay’s defense responded, holding the Middies to just eight points in the final quarter while the Rockets found timely offense from multiple contributors.

The decisive sequence came with the game knotted at 52 in the closing minutes. Trefz rose up from beyond the arc, drew contact and buried the shot, making the game 55-52. That momentum swing sparked Bay’s finishing push, as the Rockets outscored Midview 15-8 in the fourth to complete the comeback and secure the 61-55 victory.

Chloe Kazma anchored Bay in the paint, posting a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds to steady the offense and control the boards. Lee provided consistent scoring as well, finishing with 16 points and nine rebounds, including the key buzzer-beater before halftime that trimmed Midview’s lead to a single point and shifted the game’s tone.

Trefz delivered one of the most complete performances of the night, totaling 13 points, three rebounds, three assists and five steals while also hitting the game’s biggest shot. Anna Weingart directed the offense to perfection, contributing two points, four rebounds and eight assists, along with nine deflections and four steals as Bay’s defensive pressure intensified over the final three quarters.

The Rockets’ ability to respond after a slow start, combined with balanced scoring and disruptive defense, turned an early eight-point deficit into a statement win. With multiple players impacting the game on both ends of the floor, Bay closed strong and carried valuable momentum out of a tightly contested matchup.
