Fry's Career-Low Helps Propel Bay to 199-210 Win Over Buckeye
AVON LAKE, Ohio - The Rockets matched their season-low nine-hole score Tuesday and closed the regular season with a 199-210 victory over the Buckeye Bucks. The closely contested home win gave Bay an 8-6 record in dual matches and a 4-4 mark against conference opponents.
Caroline Kousaie led the Rockets with a 45, the lowest individual score of the match for Bay. Sam Fry followed with a career-low 48, breaking 50 for the first time this season and giving the Rockets two rounds below 50.
Fry had an opportunity to finish even lower on the final hole. Fry rolled a birdie attempt on No. 9 that narrowly missed, but the closing par completed a milestone round and helped Bay reach its 199 team total.
The Rockets also received consistent scoring throughout the lineup. Katherine Bowler, Stella Turrall and Charlotte Hofelich each shot 53, providing Bay with the depth it needed to hold off Buckeye. Ella Taulbee completed the Rockets' scores with a 56.
Bay's balanced performance proved decisive in a match separated by 11 strokes. The Rockets combined Kousaie's team-leading 45 and Fry's breakthrough round with multiple scores in the low 50s to equal their best nine-hole total of the season. The match began at 4:30 p.m. in partly cloudy conditions, with a temperature of 65 degrees and winds at 13 mph, and ended with Bay securing a winning dual-match record in its regular-season finale.
