Hawken’s Chaotic Second-Half Goal Forces 1-1 Draw With Bay

Hawken converted a chaotic sequence in the second half to pull even with Bay High School, and the teams finished in a 1-1 draw Saturday, Aug. 22, at 29230 Wolf Rd, Bay Village, OH 44140, USA. The equalizer erased a first-half lead for the Rockets in the varsity boys soccer match, which was played in partly cloudy conditions with a game-time temperature of 74 degrees.

Bay took the lead during the 16th-to-30th-minute interval when No. 12 Oliver Marotta scored off an assist from No. 10 Andrew Starnes. Jennrich supplied much of the Rockets’ attacking pressure, taking four shots and putting all four on goal. Bay generated six shots in the first half, including three on target, before carrying its 1-0 advantage into halftime.

Hawken found its response after the break, turning a crowded, unsettled play near the goal into the tying score. Bay goalkeeper and captain Logan Jennrich helped keep the match level with three second-half saves after making six in the opening half, finishing with nine saves overall.

The Rockets continued to test Hawken with three shots in the second half, two of which were on target, but they could not produce another goal. Bay finished with nine total shots and five on goal, a 55.6% accuracy rate. The Rockets held 47.8% of the possession, totaling 23 minutes, 57 seconds with the ball.

Several Bay players contributed to the attack beyond the opening goal. Liam Newton put the Rockets’ other recorded shot on target, while Weston Matty, Will Kralik and Evan Catteua each attempted a shot. Hawken’s second-half equalizer stood as the final goal, leaving both sides with one goal after Bay’s early finish and Logan Jennrich’s nine-save performance.
