In Week 2, Girls Track & Field Finishes 3rd, 4th at Home and at Lakewood Relays

The Bay Girls Track & Field team hosted their first home meet of the season on Wednesday, scoring 30 points to Magnificat's 42 and Valley Forge's 67, before heading to Lakewood Ranger Relays for their second invitational on the year, taking 4th in the seven team field.
Despite the cold temperatures on Wednesday and a squad resting up for the upcoming invitational, several girls enjoyed fine performances, once again headlined by senior Riley Mitchell, who earned 1st and 3rd place finishes in the Shot Put and Discus, respectively. Meanwhile, junior Susie Hargett earned a 1st in the Discus while sophomore Chloe Pyros took 3rd in the Shot. In the jumps, sophomore Gigi Waters earned her first points of the season, earning a runner-up finish in the Pole Vault.
On the track, sophomore Violet Powell scored in the 100 Hurdles while junior McKenna Adkins did the same in the 300 Hurdles. The highlight of the event, however, was freshman standout Elyse Edelman earning her fourth victory on the season, taking first in both the 1600 and the 400!
Two days later, the ladies headed east to Lakewood for the 46th Annual Ranger Relays, with the field events starting the meet. In the Long Jump, McKenna and sophomore Ruby Render enjoyed season bests while in the Shot Put and Discus, both Riley and Chloe finished in the top 10 in each event.
In the distance events, the Distance Medley team of freshmen Kai Ripley, Chloe Vincent, Elyse Edelman, and Maya Gonzalez enjoyed a convincing victory in their relay, all the more impressive as the group led off the running events with a 2nd place finish in the 4x1600. Meanwhile, the sprinters enjoyed a runner-up finish in the 4x200 as junior Jaiden Latimer-Smith, Birdie Krueger, and Annie Willmitch joined Ruby as well as the 4x100, where Jaiden, Birdie, and Annie teamed up with McKenna in the final event of the day.
Congratulations to all the girls for persevering through some difficult weather conditions the past week and good luck next week as the Rockets host their home invitational next Saturday, April 18th!
