LORAIN, Ohio - Freshman Jack McAllister shot an 83 to lead the Bay High School boys golf team to an eighth-place finish at the Amherst Comet Invite on Tuesday at Fox Creek. The young Rockets posted a four-player total of 361 in their first competitive round of the season, placing in the top half of the 15-team field.
Jack McAllister delivered Bay’s most consistent performance in an impressive varsity debut. He opened with a 42 and improved by one stroke over his final nine, closing with a 41. His steady play produced the Rockets’ lowest score of the tournament.
Sam Vardon, a sophomore, provided an early spark with two birdies during the opening portion of his round. He also nearly made a hole-in-one on his fourth hole, giving Bay one of its most notable moments of the day as the Rockets settled into the competition after some early-round nerves.
Soph Sam Vardon followed Jack McAllister with an 88. Freshman Robert Pinkeva finished with a 94 after closing with a 44 on his final nine, showing improvement as the round progressed. Deloy Johnson completed Bay’s team scoring with a 96. Those four scores combined for the Rockets’ 361 total.
The season-opening tournament gave Bay’s young lineup its first chance to handle the demands of competitive play. The Rockets worked through their early jitters and gained experience managing a full round, with the day also reinforcing the importance of dependable short-game play.
Bay will return to competition on the road at the Irish Classics/Highland Park event hosted by St. Edward at noon EDT Monday, Aug. 10, 2026.
