Lady Rockets Open 2025 Track & Field Season!

In a spirited display of athleticism, the Bay High School Girls' Track and Field team opened their 2025 season with a dual meet against the Rocky River Pirates on April 2 at Rocky River High School. Despite challenging, cool and windy weather conditions, the Rockets showcased promising talent, particularly among their underclassmen, although they fell to Rocky River with a score of 82.5 to 49.5. The Rockets' performance was highlighted by a series of stellar individual performances across both running and field events. In the running category, sophomore Annie Willmitch emerged as a standout, clinching first place in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and as part of the 4x100 meter relay team, alongside sophomores Jaiden Latimer-Smith, Mckenna Adkins, and Birdie Krueger. Adkins also added a second place in the 300-meter hurdles and a third in the 100-meter hurdles, while Krueger took third in both the 100 meters and 200 meters. Additional contributions came from Evin Mason, Ruby Render, and Ainsley Scheid, who scored points in various sprint and hurdle events. The field events saw Riley Mitchell setting a new personal best of 34 feet 7 inches in the Shot Put, securing first place and adding a second-place finish in the discus throw. Senior Maddie Knaack and junior Riley Mitchell were instrumental, with Knaack taking third in the Discus. High Jump efforts were led by Sophia Gadd and Jaiden Latimer-Smith, who finished second and third, respectively. Reflecting on the day's challenges, senior high jumper Sophia Gadd said, "The wind was tough, and I'm tired, but we did pretty well for our first meet." Coach Kaiser mirrored this sentiment in his remarks, acknowledging the good performances despite some areas needing improvement, "It was a good day, and there were a lot of good performances, but we still have some work to do!" The Rockets will look to build on these performances at their next event, slated for April 4, at the Nelson Howe Invitational held at Firelands High School.
