Lady Rockets' take 12th at Avon Lake Invitational!

Bay High School's Girls Varsity Track and Field team faced fierce competition as they participated in the invitational held on April 5, 2025, at Avon Lake High School. Despite cold and misty conditions, the team showcased resilience and talent, ultimately securing 12th place amid a challenging lineup of schools including Avon Lake, Euclid, Lorain, Magnificat, Westlake, Brunswick, St. Joe's, Avon, and Rocky River. Sophomore sensation Annie Willmitch made substantial contributions, notably securing high placements in sprint events. She finished 4th in the 100m, 5th in the 200m, and helped anchor the 4x200 and 4x100 relay teams to 7th and 4th places, respectively. Teammates Jaiden Latimer-Smith, Ruby Render, Birdie Kreuger, and Mckenna Adkins displayed fantastic teamwork in the relays. Notably, Ruby Render, running her first-ever high school 400m, earned a commendable 6th place, adding valuable points for the team. Additionally, senior Erin Belveal earned a 5th place finish in the 3200m event. The field events also saw notable performances, especially from senior Riley Mitchell who achieved an 8th place finish in the Shot Put, rounding off a week highlighted by personal records. Support from team members Maddie Knaack, Evin Mason, Anne Weber, Hannah Starnes, Addisen Patrick, Lynn Swislocki, and Bridget Rettig contributed significantly throughout the meet. Athlete Ruby shared her experience, "The competition was really good, but we did pretty well!" echoing the sentiment of camaraderie and achievement at the event. Head Coach Curran reflected on the team's endurance and performance with pride, stating, "It was a gauntlet of a week with three meets in four days, but the girls did great... and this is a great sign of things to come!" As the Rockets prepare for their next challenge against Valley Forge High School on April 8, 2025, at Byers Field, the team looks forward to continuing their momentum and showcasing their growing skill set in the sport.
