Mileti set the tone- Bay Rockets Boys Golf are poised to move-up!

Rick Manderine | Bay High School | Aug 17, 2026

The Bay High School boys golf team opened Cleveland West Conference play with a 337 on Friday, Aug. 14, at Seneca Golf Course, leaving the Rockets two shots behind Westlake and nine behind Buckeye. Matthew Mileti led Bay with a 77, tying for third in the 48-player field, while Ryan Skyrp shot an 84 to tie for 11th.

Wet conditions and humid air made the course play long, adding pressure to an already demanding opening round. Matthew Mileti quickly gave the Rockets a lift by making birdie on the par-4 first hole. Matthew also navigated the difficult setup with smart decisions, overcoming an inconsistent driver to score a 77 and earn a share of third place.

The Rockets found better rhythm as the round progressed. After battling early nerves, Ryan Skryp parred the first six holes of the back nine and played that side in 2-over 38. A reliable 3-wood and steady short game fueled the closing stretch and an 84, which placed the senior near the top 10.

Matthew Mileti stated that competitive summer events provided him with confidence and helped calm his nerves. He's amped for 2nd round at Weymouth Country Club on August 29th.

Emmitt followed a similar plan and began the back nine with a birdie on the par-4 10th. Another birdie followed at the par-5 12th on the way to an 85 and 12th place. The individual results also listed Emmitt Naughton at 85 in 12th, while Blake Ropelewski completed Bay's listed scoring with a 91 and finished 27th.

Bay's four listed scoring rounds of 77, 84, 85 and 91 produced the 337 team total. Westlake finished at 335, while Buckeye scored a 327 The Rockets' stronger play after settling into the round kept them within striking distance, with improved putting and course management offering a path toward second place behind Rocky River Pirates as conference play continues.

The Rockets next travel to the Bulldog Classic at Prestwick Country Club (Green) on Monday, Aug. 17, 2026.
