Mileti Takes 3rd at Amusement Park Classic: Rockets score a 339!

The Bay High Rockets turned heads at the 1st Annual Amusement Park Classic, delivering an impressive team performance at the historic Plumbrook Country Club. Competing against 18 outstanding programs from across the state of Ohio, the Rockets entered the event as an underdog, facing the additional challenge of relying on several younger players to step into expanded roles while some veteran players battled illness or needed a well-deserved break.

The young Rockets answered the call—and made some noise.

With confidence, composure, and a relentless competitive spirit, Bay High posted a team score of 339, proving that the future of Rocket golf is already making its presence felt. Several of our younger players seized their opportunity, turning in performances that will not soon be forgotten.

(Fr.) Jack McAllister got the Rockets off to a strong start with an impressive 87. The freshman displayed excellent ball striking off the tee and navigated Plumbrook’s tiered greens with the poise of a seasoned veteran.

What stood out most was Jack’s demeanor. He remained even-keeled, played with confidence, and kept a smile on his face throughout the round. His ability to stay composed and enjoy the moment was a major asset in a challenging tournament environment. Jack continues to show that he is more than ready to compete at this level.

Robert Pinkeva and Sam Vardon followed with matching 95s, each demonstrating the resilience and determination that define the Rocket golf program.

Both young men faced less-than-ideal starts but refused to let early struggles dictate the outcome. They battled back on the back nine, finding their rhythm and heating up with the putter when it mattered most.

Their ability to reset, compete, and finish strong was a valuable lesson in tournament golf. These young Rockets are gaining experience, building confidence, and showing that they belong on the big stage.

Senior co-captain Emmitt Naughton delivered another gritty performance, carding an 84 in a round that demanded patience and perseverance.

Emmitt endured a slow start and battled swing struggles early in the day. Rather than allowing frustration to take over, he continued to fight—and the results were impressive. The senior captain caught fire on the final nine holes, manufacturing three birdies to finish his round in style.

That kind of determination is what makes Emmitt such a valuable leader. As a coach, it is incredibly rewarding to watch a player battle through adversity and compete until the very last shot. Emmitt once again demonstrated the heart of a true competitor.

The headline of the day belonged to senior co-captain Matthew Mileti, who delivered a spectacular performance in the 80-player field. Matthew fired a 72 (+1) to earn an outstanding third-place finish and etch his name into the conversation among the top rounds in Bay High golf history.

Matthew wasted no time making his presence felt. On his opening hole, he poured in a remarkable 40-foot birdie putt, setting the tone for a special day.

From there, the senior captain displayed elite ball striking, tremendous course management, and the composure of a player who knows how to handle the moment. When obstacles appeared, Matthew consistently found a way to overcome them.

And just when it appeared his round could not get any better, he finished with back-to-back birdies to secure his 72.

Matthew’s demeanor throughout the day was exceptional. He stayed focused, remained positive, and trusted his game from the first tee to the final green. His performance was not only a personal achievement but an outstanding example for every young Rocket watching and learning from him.

The Amusement Park Classic provided another valuable opportunity for the Bay High golf program to compete against some of Ohio’s finest teams. More importantly, it showcased the depth, talent, and competitive spirit that continues to define Rocket golf.

Our younger players stepped up. Our captains led the way. And the entire team demonstrated the resilience necessary to compete at a high level.

With the postseason approaching, the Rockets are playing with confidence, gaining valuable experience, and building momentum at the right time.

The foundation is strong. The belief is real. And this Rocket team is ready to make a deep postseason run.
