Progress Through Competition: Rockets Wrestling Measures Growth at Hudson

The Bay Rockets Wrestling team traveled to Hudson High School on December 19th &20th to compete in the Hudson Holiday Classic, a highly competitive tournament featuring 30 schools from across the region. Facing a deep and talented field that included numerous state-ranked wrestlers and established programs, the Rockets battled throughout the weekend and finished 14th overall, gaining valuable experience and momentum as the season continues. Senior Joe Beauchesne set the tone for the Rockets and led by example throughout the weekend. Beauchesne turned in a standout 6–1 performance to secure an impressive 3rd-place finish, consistently wrestling with confidence, poise, and purpose. His tournament was highlighted by a signature victory over a top-15 state-ranked opponent to put him into the 3rd place match, a statement win that not only showcased his technical growth but also his ability to rise to the moment against elite competition. As one of the team’s veteran leaders, Beauchesne’s presence on and off the mat was felt throughout the lineup, providing a steady example of composure, work ethic, and competitive toughness for the younger wrestlers to follow. Freshman Max Prahl continued to impress in his varsity debut season, earning a hard-fought 4th-place finish against seasoned competition. Prahl’s performance reflected both his potential and his willingness to compete aggressively in a demanding environment. Fellow senior Michael Surovi added to the Rockets’ scoring efforts with a strong 5th-place finish, demonstrating resilience and consistency across multiple matches. Junior Brock Kunes also contributed valuable team points with a 7th-place finish, rounding out a solid showing from the Rockets’ core contributors. Beyond the placers, several Rockets delivered commendable performances that underscored the team’s growing depth. Juniors Carter Baruxes and Ben Wagner, along with freshman Carver Vovos, along with Grady Frombach and Jack Kinat, all wrestled tough throughout the tournament and narrowly missed reaching the placement rounds. Their efforts reflected meaningful progress and highlighted the competitiveness developing throughout the lineup. Following the tournament, Coach Clarke reflected on the weekend, stating, “Overall, Hudson was a good measuring stick for us. We competed hard, showed some positives, and also exposed areas we need to tighten up. That’s exactly what you want out of a weekend like this as we continue to grow.” Clarke also noted the importance of senior leadership, pointing to Beauchesne’s and Surovi's both performances and approaches as the standard for the program moving forward. The Rockets will return to action on December 29th and 30th at the Kenston Invitational Tournament (The KIT), hosted at Kenston High School. The upcoming event will provide another opportunity for the Rockets to build on the lessons learned at Hudson, continue sharpening their execution, and take the next step in their development as the season progresses.
