Rockets Boys Race to Fourth-Place Finish at Hoka Night XC Showcase

Bay High School opened its racing season with an impressive team performance Saturday at the Hoka Night XC Showcase in Geneva, Ohio. The Rockets placed fourth among 48 teams in the Black Division and eighth out of 27 teams in the Open Division, overcoming heavy traffic, dusty conditions and a clear, 79-degree afternoon. Fifteen of Bay’s 22 runners recorded personal-best times, while several others finished close to their previous bests.
Liam Jager led the Black Division lineup with a third-place finish in 16:56.44, setting the pace for Bay’s strong showing. Gavin English followed in sixth at 17:04.80, giving the Rockets two runners among the top six. Adrian Ray added an 18th-place finish in 17:24.66, completing a front-running trio that crossed within 29 seconds of one another and gave Bay a strong foundation in the team standings.
The Rockets continued building their score through steady pack running. Joe Kubiak finished 71st in 18:27.32, and Sam Mcclellan took 84th in 18:36.65. Charlie Juratic was 103rd in 18:50.29, James Greenleaf placed 129th in 19:13.15 and Micah Bendoraitis came home 149th in 19:27.24. Dan Buttrick and Carver Vovos completed Bay’s Black Division effort almost side by side, placing 168th and 170th in 19:36.04 and 19:38.06, respectively.
Bay also showed its depth in the Open Division. Adam Baltz led the Rockets in 27th place with a time of 19:37.26, while Liam Loeffler finished 41st in 19:55.45 and Anton Bekeny placed 48th in 19:59.55. That trio stayed within 23 seconds, another example of the close pack racing that helped Bay secure eighth place in a 27-team field. Mason Shah added a 72nd-place finish in 20:25.70.
The Open Division pack remained tightly grouped deeper into the lineup. Graham Dunstan finished 103rd in 21:05.28, one spot ahead of Leo Krueger, who ran 21:06.05. Jonah Bendoraitis placed 130th in 21:28.64, followed closely by Aden Davis in 133rd at 21:30.23. Eli Belveal finished 180th in 22:12.53, Aidan Hays was 215th in 22:42.06, Lukas Mcgrew placed 236th in 22:59.27 and Gavin Fry finished 287th in 24:30.59.
Although times are only one measure of progress in cross country, personal records from 15 runners provided an encouraging early-season benchmark. Bay paired those individual breakthroughs with two top-eight team finishes, giving the Rockets plenty of momentum to carry forward.
