Rockets Boys Track Show Strength at Avon Lake Invitational
AVON LAKE, April 5, 2025 – It was a day of strong performances for the Bay Boys Track and Field team at the Avon Lake Invitational. The team was able to score the most points at this meet in the last 15 years for the Rockets. The team finished 6th amidst a highly competitive field, marking a strong opening to their season! Jayden Perrine emerged as a standout competitor in a very competitive field, clinching the win in the 200 Meter Dash with an impressive time of 22.53 seconds and winning the Long Jump with a leap of 19-7 feet. He also secured second place in the 100 Meter Dash, clocking in at 11.19 seconds. Jayden lead off the 4x200m relay team with Ben Kamm, Max Fischer and Colin McAlea to grab 8th place. Jayden's achievements highlighted a day filled with strong performances across various events by the Rockets. In the distance events, Michael Hanselman and Connor Spellman excelled in the 1600 Meter Run, finishing second and third respectively, in a tactical "sit and kick" race. Kieran Ripley also opened the season strong in the 3200 Meter Run, placing second with a time of 9:56.24. Spencer Grace added points to the team total with an 8th place finish. The hurdles saw Elliot Trefz finishing 10th in the 110 Meter Hurdles and 9th in the 300 Meter Hurdles, showcasing his prowess in both events. The Rockets' 4x400 relay team of Mikey Taylor, Ben Kamm, Max Fischer and Colin McAlea added an 8th place finish in a strong competition. Field events added further accolades with Lute Harmon and Jackson Smith tying for fifth in the High Jump, each clearing 5 feet 6 inches. This array of strong finishes across different disciplines speaks to the depth and talent of this team. The achievement came despite some challenges as noted by athlete Max Fischer, who remarked, "Considering we ran an Invitational the night before, we were pretty juiced and working through some injuries." His comment underscores the resilience and determination the team displayed throughout the event. With such a robust start to the season, the Bay High School Rockets are poised for continued success, building on the solid foundation laid at the Avon Lake Invitational.
