Rockets Swimming and Diving Earns Multiple Wins but Falls to Rocky River in Dual Meet

Bay Swimming and Divin teams came away with several standout performances Friday night at the North Olmsted Rec Center, but ultimately dropped a dual meet to Rocky River. The Rocky River boys defeated Bay 100-68, while the Pirates’ girls topped the Rockets 110-67.

Despite the team scores, Bay’s lineup produced a series of event victories and key point-scoring swims. On the boys side, Luke Filiatraut and Ollie Brown each swept their individual events to pace the Rockets. Filiatraut captured the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly, while Brown secured wins in both the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke.

The Rockets also earned a decisive relay victory, with the boys medley relay of Filiatraut, Brown, John Allan and Ilias Ghaffari dominating the field. The quartet pulled away from the competition and won the event by roughly a body length, giving Bay one of the most convincing wins of the night and setting an early tone for the boys’ strong individual showings.

On the girls side, distance and sprint performances led the way for Bay. Ruby Render won the 500-yard freestyle and added a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle to collect valuable points. Fellow Rocket Moriah Murtha claimed the 100-yard breaststroke and placed second in the 200-yard individual medley, giving Bay another reliable two-event scorer in the girls lineup.

Sprinter Lily Wavak contributed one of the Rockets’ marquee wins in the 50-yard freestyle and later finished third in the 100-yard freestyle, bolstering Bay’s scoring in the shorter races. Ghaffari highlighted the boys’ sprint depth with a strong second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, adding to his relay contribution. For the girls, Emery Ziemnik turned in a pair of runner-up efforts, taking second in both the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke to keep Bay in contention in the middle-distance stroke events.

Rounding out the scoring efforts, Mia Tosi and Robert Abramov delivered important third-place finishes in their respective individual events, helping Bay add depth points on a night when Rocky River’s overall numbers proved difficult to match. Their performances underscored the Rockets’ balance across the lineup, with contributions coming from both veterans and emerging swimmers.

While Rocky River’s depth ultimately carried the meet, Bay’s multiple event wins, relay dominance in the boys medley and a series of podium finishes provided encouraging signs as the Rockets move deeper into the winter schedule. With several swimmers already posting strong early-season results across a range of events, Bay appears positioned to build on this performance in upcoming duals and championship meets.
