Rockets Excel at Lakewood Ranger Relays

Bay boys track and field team achieved a remarkable 2nd place finish, scoring 70 points at the Lakewood Ranger Relays held at Lakewood Stadium on April 11, 2025. Competing against a strong field including teams from Avon, Avon Lake, Berea-Midpark, Gilmour Academy, North Royalton, and Shaker Heights, the Rockets shone brightly with several outstanding performances across running, racing, and field events. On the track, the Rockets' 4x1600m team comprising Brennen Lyons, Spencer Grace, Stephen Murphy, and Liam Jager showed commendable effort by securing 4th place, setting the stage for further success throughout the meet. The 4x800m relay team, including Jager and Grace again, alongside Will Curran and Adrian Ray, replicated this 4th place finish, with each member contributing strong legs to the team's effort. The drama peaked during the Distance Medley Relay (DMR), where the team displayed exceptional comeback skills. Starting with Brennen Lyons and passing through Mikey Taylor, Kieran Ripley, and Michael Hanselman, the team rallied from a challenging position to snatch a thrilling victory. This momentum carried over to the Sprint Medley Relay (SMR), where Evan Taulbee, Cooper Brauxes, Ben Kamm, and Jayden Perrine captivated spectators with a spectacular win secured in the final few meters by Perrine. In individual racing events, Michael Hanselman and Kieran Ripley returned to the track for the 3200m, achieving 1st and 3rd places respectively. Their ability to perform under pressure was particularly evident, with Hanselman clinching a tactical victory. Field events also saw impressive achievements from the Rockets. Lute Harmon secured a 3rd place in High Jump, and Elliot Trefz not only accomplished a personal record in the 110m Hurdles but also garnered points in Pole Vault. The Shot and Disc relay team, consisting of Sully Knaack, Braeden Egan, and David Mayer, and the Long Jump team of Perrine, Harmon, and Avery Banks, further highlighted the depth of talent within the team. Coach praised the team's depth and collaborative spirit, which was crucial in scoring points across nearly all events. 'In a great display of full team effort, the boys were able to score points for the team in almost every event contested! This is a very good sign of things to come for these guys,' the coach remarked. Looking ahead, the energy and team spirit from this event will surely be carried into their next encounter against Westlake at home on April 16, 2025. The Rockets have set a high bar for the season and seem ready to face upcoming challenges with confidence and vigor.
