Rockets Fall 28-7 to Ashland as Trench Battle Proves Decisive

Bay High School’s defense delivered several strong individual performances Friday, but Ashland High School controlled the line of scrimmage and handed the Rockets a 28-7 home loss. The Rockets stayed competitive defensively for stretches, but the amount of time that unit spent on the field and Ashland’s advantage in the trenches proved decisive.

Ethan Sedivec supplied Bay’s touchdown and made an impact on both sides of the ball. In addition to producing the Rockets’ only score, Sedivec broke up three passes to help limit Ashland’s opportunities through the air, and had a major contested catch on third and very long. His all-around performance gave Bay a bright spot in a game played under mainly clear skies with a game-time temperature of 81 degrees.

Patrick Cleary had a few major forth down conversions to help keep bay afloat for as long as possible. His ability to keep the plays alive was a major reason for the Rockets staying in the game till the very end.

Jack McManamon helped lead the Rockets’ work at the line of scrimmage on defense, recording two sacks. A heavy amount of carries also contributed a standout effort for Bay, which continued to battle despite facing sustained pressure from Ashland. Those performances highlighted a defensive unit that played well but carried a heavy workload throughout the game.

Offensively, Bay finished with one touchdown and could not generate enough sustained production to keep its defense rested. Bay lost the battle in the trenches, and that imbalance shaped the game as Ashland built its three-touchdown margin. The Rockets’ defense still produced disruptive plays through a nice pass rush ant times and the defensive backs work in coverage, giving the team concrete positives to build upon.

The Rockets will look to improve their line play and complement their defense when they return to action at home against University Schools at 7 p.m. EDT Friday, August 28, 2026.
