Rockets Fall Three Strokes Short of Pirates at Big Met

The Rockets posted a team score of 187 but finished three strokes behind Rocky River in a competitive CWC match Wednesday at Big Met Golf Course in Fairview Park. Joe Boushelle and Josh Plautz led the Rockets with rounds of 45 as the Pirates prevailed 184-187 in hot, demanding conditions.

The Sept. 2 match began with the temperature at 89 degrees and a daily high of 93, adding another challenge to the course. The Rockets stayed within striking distance throughout the round, leaning on their short games and composure to keep the final margin close. Joe consistently saved strokes around the greens, turning difficult situations into manageable scores and keeping his card moving in the right direction.

Josh supplied one of the Rockets’ most resilient performances. After a slow start, Josh settled into the round and battled through the finish without allowing the early holes to dictate the rest of the day. That response, along with steady body language and a positive approach, helped Bay remain competitive against the Pirates.

Everett Eagen added a 48 and John Churchill completed the Rockets’ four counting scores with a 49. Everett also continued to show progress with the driver. A smooth, trusted swing produced encouraging results off the tee and offered another sign of development within Bay’s young lineup.

Although the Rockets came away three shots short, the round provided another measure of their growth, maturity and resilience. Bay’s players continued to compete, support one another and gain confidence while navigating a difficult course in steamy weather.

The Rockets will have a quick chance to respond. Rocky River will travel to the Briar-Patch next week for a rematch, giving Bay an opportunity to apply the lessons from Big Met and try to reverse Wednesday’s three-stroke result.
