BAY_VILLAGE, Ohio - Bay High School fell to Lakewood 36-35 in overtime Friday, October 2, at home after the Rockets scored on fourth-and-long but failed to convert a potential winning two-point attempt. Lakewood opened overtime with a touchdown and extra point, leaving Bay needing a touchdown to extend the game. The Rockets played a great all around game against a very good team just ended up being a really tough loss.

The Rockets started quickly in the first quarter, with Patrick Cleary and Ethan Sedivic providing several of the offense’s biggest plays. Cleary connected with Sedivic for a 60-yard touchdown. Another scoring sequence began with Cleary getting the ball to Sedivic, who then passed to Jack McManamon for a 50-yard touchdown.

Sedivic also turned a contested jump ball into a touchdown. Cleary’s pass was batted into the air, but Sedivic came down with a one-handed reception for the score. Sedivic finished with two receiving touchdowns and one passing touchdown, contributing both as a target and as a passer.

Cleary threw for about 300 yards and four touchdowns as Bay spread its scoring contributions across several receivers. Brody Beggs and Lute Harmon each caught a touchdown pass, joining Sedivic and McManamon among the Rockets’ scoring targets. Griffin Ruppe added a field goal, giving Bay points from its kicking game as well.

Defensively, Sedivic forced a fumble and Jack Chappelle recorded an interception. Bay’s offense slowed after its fast start, but the Rockets still had a chance to win at the end of regulation. A long field-goal attempt missed into the windy night sky, sending the conference matchup into overtime.

Bay answered Lakewood’s overtime touchdown by reaching the end zone on fourth-and-long, then chose to go for the victory rather than attempt a tying extra point. The unsuccessful conversion left the Rockets one point short despite their touchdown response. The Rockets will look to bounce back in their next contest on Thursday, October 8, against Valley Forge.
