Rockets Fall to Lakewood in Five Sets After Taking 2-0 Lead

Bay High School won two tight sets before Lakewood rallied for a 23-25, 24-26, 25-16, 25-21, 15-10 victory over the Rockets in a five-set conference match Thursday night. Bay earned a 2-0 advantage but could not stop Lakewood from winning three consecutive sets to complete the comeback.
The Rockets delivered in the closing points of the opening set, securing a 25-23 win. The second set was even closer, extending beyond the standard 25-point finish before Bay prevailed 26-24. Those two narrow victories gave the Rockets a commanding position after they outscored Lakewood 51-47 across the first two sets.
Lakewood shifted the match in the third set, building enough separation to win 25-16 and extend the contest. Bay responded with a more competitive fourth set, but Lakewood closed out a 25-21 decision to force the decisive fifth. With the match reduced to a race to 15 points, Lakewood took the final set 15-10.
Amelia Vecchio led Bay's work from the service line with 11 service points, while Sloane Kerber added 10. Payton Masterson finished with seven service points, and Lila Ross contributed five. Their production helped the Rockets capture the first two sets and remain within reach during the fourth.
Bay also received four service points from Morgan Parris, three from Addy Hoegler, two from Camille Costin and one from Rachel Kraft. Eight Rockets combined for 43 service points, giving Bay contributions throughout the rotation in a match decided only after all five sets.
The Rockets return home to face North Olmsted on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, at 6 p.m. EDT.
