Bay High School battled through a tight opening set but fell to Steele 2-0 on Saturday, Sept. 5. The Rockets dropped the first set 25-22 before Steele completed the straight-set victory with a 25-18 decision in the second.

The opening set was the closest of the match and gave Bay its best chance to gain an early advantage. The Rockets scored 22 points and stayed within three at the finish, but Steele secured the final points needed to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

Morgan Parris led Bay's work from the service line with seven service points, nearly half of the Rockets' team total of 15. Sloane Kerber added four service points, while Addy Hoegler contributed two. Amelia Vecchio and Andy Naughton each finished with one service point, giving Bay five contributors in that phase of the match.

Steele carried the advantage into the second set and held Bay to 18 points. The Rockets continued to find production at the service line, but they were unable to match their 22-point output from the opener. Steele reached 25 for the second consecutive set to close the match.

The result left Bay with a narrow first-set margin to build on and a balanced group of servers who contributed points. Parris set the pace, while Kerber, Hoegler, Amelia Vecchio and Andy Naughton provided additional production as the Rockets worked to sustain pressure across both sets.

Bay returns to the road to face Normandy on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, at 6 p.m. EDT.
