Bay High School stayed within striking distance in both sets but fell 2-0 to Walsh Jesuit on Saturday at 26939 Bagley Rd, Olmsted Falls, OH 44138. The Rockets dropped a 25-23 opening set before Walsh Jesuit completed the sweep with a 25-21 victory in the second.
The opening set proved to be the closest portion of the match. Bay reached 23 points and forced Walsh Jesuit to finish under pressure, but the Rockets came up two points short. The result gave Walsh Jesuit control of the match and left Bay needing the second set to extend play.
The Rockets again remained competitive in the second set, scoring 21 points before Walsh Jesuit closed out the match. Only six points separated the teams across the two sets, with Walsh Jesuit holding a 50-44 advantage in total points. Bay's ability to reach at least 21 points in each set kept both frames close despite the final sweep.
Service production was spread throughout the Bay lineup. Amelia Vecchio led the Rockets with six service points, while Morgan Parris added five and Lila Ross recorded four. Payton Masterson finished with two service points, and Sloane Kerber and Camille Costin contributed one apiece. Those six players combined for 19 service points and helped Bay apply pressure from behind the service line.
The narrow margins gave the Rockets a competitive foundation to build on as they move forward. Bay will return home to face Lakewood at Bay High School on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, at 6 p.m. EDT.
