Rockets Finish Fifth at Woodridge Invitational

George Curran | Bay High School | Oct 4, 2026

BAY_VILLAGE, Ohio - Bay High School finished fifth among 21 teams with 180 points at the Woodridge CVNP XC Invitational on Saturday, October 3, at Kendall Hills. Gavin English led the Rockets with a 13th-place finish in 17:49.9, while Liam Jager followed in 17th at 18:07.7, giving Bay two runners among the top 20.

Every position mattered in a tightly grouped portion of the team standings. Bay finished just one point behind fourth-place Buckeye, which scored 179, and one point ahead of sixth-place Orange at 181. Twinsburg was close behind with 185 points. Woodridge won with 29 points, followed by Solon with 58 and Streetsboro with 168, while Berea-Midpark placed eighth with 208.

The Rockets approached a race they had discussed for weeks as a difficult test, then left with a common reaction: “That wasn't so hard.” The Rockets had a great race, gradually moving through the field and chasing down competitors as the race developed.

Behind English and Jager, Adrian Ray placed 37th in 18:53.0 and Sam McClellan finished 46th in 19:01.7, separated by just 8.7 seconds. Another closely spaced group featured Carver Vovos, 82nd in 19:51.4; Charles Juratic, 85th in 19:58.2; and Joe Kubiak, 90th in 20:01.6. Those three crossed within 10.2 seconds of one another, illustrating the close grouping that supported Bay's team effort. Liam Loeffler added a 100th-place finish in 20:11.9.

Bay's depth continued with Micah Bendoraitis, who finished 114th in 20:28.6. Adam Baltz placed 120th in 20:35.1, immediately followed by Jack Marcuse in 121st at 20:38.5. Max Clevenger took 133rd in 20:51.2, and Anton Bekeny followed in 138th at 20:56.5. The small gaps between these teammates provided another example of the Rockets' closely grouped finishes.

Dan Buttrick finished 157th in 21:10.9, Mason Shah placed 164th in 21:16.9, and Athan Thanos took 171st in 21:24.3. Graham Dunstan crossed less than a second later, finishing 172nd in 21:25.1, while Aidan Hays placed 186th in 21:45.1. James Greenleaf finished 201st in 22:20.0, followed by Eli Belveal in 211th at 22:39.1 and Jonah Bendoraitis in 213th at 22:47.4.

Gerry Maloney placed 220th in 22:56.0, Lukas McGrew finished 235th in 23:22.9, and Gavin Fry completed Bay's results in 285th at 25:47.5. From the front-running pair to the teammates working through the field behind them, the Rockets turned their preparation into a fifth-place team finish in a competitive field. The Rockets will look to bounce back in their next contest on Saturday, October 10, at the CWC Championship.
