Rockets Match Season Low but Fall 198-202 to Rocky River

FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio - Caroline Kousaie earned the lowest score of the contest with a 47, and Stella Turrall added a career-low 49, but Bay High School fell four strokes short against Rocky River in a 198-202 varsity girls golf match Thursday at Big Met.

Kousaie posted the lowest nine-hole round by a player on either team, giving the Rockets a strong score at the top of their lineup. Turrall broke 50 for the first time in her career, providing Bay with its second sub-50 round of the match. Their performances helped the Rockets equal their season-low team score.

Ella Taulbee contributed a 52, while Samantha Fry completed Bay's four-player scoring total with a 54. Those four rounds added up to 202, leaving the Rockets narrowly behind Rocky River's winning total of 198.

The result represented a 14-stroke improvement for Bay after the Rockets played the same course one day earlier. Their top four front-nine scores dropped from a combined 216 to 202, showing substantial progress during their second consecutive day at Big Met.

The ninth hole proved decisive. It played as the toughest hole on the course for both teams, adding pressure at the end of a match separated by only four strokes. Rocky River handled the closing challenge well enough to preserve its narrow advantage despite Bay's two rounds below 50 and improved team total.

Although the Rockets did not come away with the team victory, Kousaie's match-low 47, Turrall's career milestone and the season-low 202 gave Bay three concrete positives from a closely contested round.
