Rockets Place Fourth at LEGGA Preview Behind Samantha Fry's 116

Bay finished fourth with a team score of 478 at the LEGGA Preview on Tuesday, Aug. 4, as Samantha Fry led the Rockets through a challenging round at Greyhawk Golf Club.

Samantha Fry, an 11th grader, posted Bay's low score with a 116. Freshman Katherine Bowler and sophomore June Hart each followed with rounds of 120, giving the Rockets three scores within four strokes of one another at the top of the lineup.

The fourth-place finish came with Bay missing three of its varsity golfers. Their absence opened spots for other players to gain tournament experience on one of the toughest courses the Rockets are scheduled to play this season.

Four players in Bay's lineup were newcomers to golf, adding another layer of difficulty to the tournament. Katherine Bowler carded a 120 in her first match, finishing just four strokes behind the team's top score. Senior Ella Taulbee and Junior Stella Turrall also made thier competitive debut and completed the scoring with a 122.

The Rockets' four counting rounds stayed within a six-stroke range. Samantha Fry's 116 set the pace, while the matching 120s from Katherine Bowler and Hart provided consistency. Ella Taulbee and Stella Turrall's 122 brought the total to 478 and secured Bay's place in the team standings.

Bay's performance provided valuable course experience for a short-handed lineup and gave several golfers their first chance to compete at the varsity level. With three regular varsity players unavailable, the Rockets still assembled four counting scores and earned a fourth-place finish against the LEGGA Preview field.
