Bay High School pushed Firelands through three sets before falling 2-1 on Saturday at Bay High School in 29230 Wolf Rd, Bay Village, OH 44140. The Rockets answered an opening-set loss with a strong response in the second, but Firelands secured the match by winning a tense deciding set that went beyond the standard 25 points.
Firelands took the opening set 25-19, putting Bay in an early one-set deficit. The Rockets regrouped in the second set, found a steadier rhythm and earned a 25-20 victory to even the match. That response forced a winner-take-all third set and gave Bay an opportunity to complete the comeback on its home court.
The deciding set was the closest of the match. Bay stayed with Firelands through the closing points, and neither side could finish the set at 25. Firelands eventually claimed the final two-point margin, 27-25, to close out the match. Bay’s 25 points in the third represented its highest set total of the day and reflected the Rockets’ persistence after dropping the opener.
Payton Masterson led Bay’s work from the service line with nine service points. Amelia Vecchio added six, while Morgan Parris contributed four and Addy Hoegler recorded three. Chloe Sullivan finished with two service points, and Camille Costin and Sloane Kerber each added one. Seven Rockets contributed at least one service point, giving Bay production throughout the rotation.
The Rockets finished with 69 total points across the three sets, one fewer than Firelands’ 70. Bay’s second-set recovery and extended battle in the third provided positives despite the narrow defeat. The Rockets will next travel to face Normandy on Tuesday, Sep 8, 2026, at 6:00 PM EDT.
