BAY VILLAGE, Ohio - Archbishop Hoban defeated Bay High School in three sets Saturday, Sept. 12, earning a 25-11, 27-25, 25-20 victory at Bay High School. The Rockets responded to a difficult opening set with two competitive frames, including an extended second set that provided the closest stretch of the match.

Hoban established the early advantage by taking the first set 25-11. Bay regrouped between sets and produced a much stronger response in the second, using improved service pressure to stay within reach. The Rockets reached 25 points and forced play beyond the standard finish, but Hoban claimed the next two decisive points to escape with a 27-25 win and a 2-0 match lead.

Bay continued to compete in the third set rather than allowing the narrow second-set loss to dictate the remainder of the match. The Rockets scored 20 points and again kept the set competitive, but Hoban closed out the match with a 25-20 victory. Bay’s final two sets represented a notable improvement after the opener, with the Rockets totaling 45 points across those frames.

Payton Masterson led Bay’s service production with six points, while Camille Costin added five and Sloane Kerber contributed four. Amelia Vecchio and Morgan Parris each recorded three service points, and Addy Hoegler finished with one. That group combined for 22 service points as the Rockets applied their best pressure during the tightly contested second and third sets.

Although the Rockets could not convert their second-set push into a set victory, the response after the opening frame gave the team a more competitive finish to the afternoon. Bay will next travel to face Westlake on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026, at 6:00 PM EDT.
