Bay High School showed significant improvement in the second set but fell to Riverside 2-0 on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 26939 Bagley Rd, Olmsted Falls, OH 44138. Riverside won the varsity volleyball match by set scores of 25-5 and 25-20.
The Rockets struggled to establish momentum in the opening set as Riverside built the advantage needed for a 25-5 victory. Facing a one-set deficit, Bay responded with a much more competitive performance in the second set and increased its point total by 15.
Bay stayed within range during the second set, using improved serving to apply more pressure. Riverside eventually closed out the set 25-20 to complete the sweep, but the Rockets reduced the set margin from 20 points in the opener to five in the finale.
Amelia Vecchio led Bay's serving effort with four service points. Payton Masterson and Sloane Kerber contributed three service points apiece, while Addyson Hoegler and Camille Costin each added two. Together, those five players accounted for 14 service points and helped the Rockets produce a stronger second set.
The turnaround provided Bay with a positive stretch to build on despite the match result. After being limited in the first set, the Rockets competed through a considerably tighter second set and forced Riverside to finish a five-point decision.
The Rockets next play at home against Lakewood on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, at 6 p.m. EDT.
