AKRON, Ohio - The Rockets combined steady leadership with timely back-nine scoring to finish second in Round Three of the Cleveland West Conference Tournament Series on Wednesday. Bay posted a four-player total of 327, finishing behind Rocky River's winning 310 and moving into sole possession of second place in the CWC standings with one round remaining.

Senior co-captains Matthew Mileti and Emmitt Naughton led the Rockets with matching 79s, tying for sixth in the 48-player field. Neither captain had their best ball-striking round, but both limited mistakes and worked through difficult stretches to give Bay two scores in the 70s.

The Rockets also found different ways to keep rounds moving in the right direction. Mileti leaned on a strong short game and consistent putting, while Naughton found success with his wedges and made two birdies on the back nine. Those birdies provided late momentum as Bay secured its place near the top of the team leaderboard.

Bay's other seniors completed the scoring total. Ryan Skryp shot an 84, producing a fast start that helped establish the Rockets among the early leaders. Will Schrock followed with an 85 and made a back-nine charge to keep Bay ahead of the teams pursuing second place. The rounds of 79, 79, 84 and 85 added up to the Rockets' 327.

The team race remained tight behind Rocky River. Lakewood placed third at 333, Westlake was fourth at 334 and Normandy followed at 337. Buckeye finished at 338, North Olmsted recorded a 352 and Valley Forge closed with a 360. Bay's total gave the Rockets a six-stroke advantage over Lakewood and a seven-stroke cushion over Westlake.

The runner-up finish continued a productive stretch for the Bay High golf program after the Rockets placed fourth at the Middie Classic earlier in the week. Now alone in second place in the Cleveland West Conference, Bay will carry that momentum into the CWC championship round at Grey Hawk Golf Club.
