BAY_VILLAGE, Ohio - Bay High School swept Normandy 3-0 in a home conference volleyball match Thursday, Oct. 1, winning 25-8, 25-15, 25-8 as Amelia Vecchio reached the milestone of 2,000 career assists. The Rockets paired the straight-sets victory with contributions from seven players in service points.
The Rockets opened with a 25-8 first-set victory, establishing a one-set advantage with their largest margin of the match. Normandy scored more points in the second set, but Bay secured that set 25-15 to move ahead 2-0. The Rockets then matched their opening-set score in the third, closing out the sweep without needing a fourth set.
Lila Ross led Bay with 17 service points, followed by Payton Masterson with 14. Their combined 31 service points paced the Rockets in a match in which Bay held Normandy to single-digit scoring in two of the three sets. The closest set was the second, which Bay still won by 10 points.
Vecchio added nine service points alongside the career assists milestone. Morgan Parris contributed seven service points, Camille Costin recorded six, Kendall Hoerig finished with two and Andy Naughton added one. Those contributions gave the Rockets production beyond their two leading service-point scorers and rounded out the individual performances in the conference victory.
Bay finished the match with 75 points across the three sets while allowing 31, combining a decisive team result with a career achievement for Vecchio. The Rockets will look to bounce back in their next contest on Tuesday, Oct. 6, against Buckeye.
