Rockets Sweep Rocky River Behind Strong Service Performance

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio - Bay High School earned a 3-0 conference victory over Rocky River on Tuesday, Sept. 22, winning 25-16, 25-19 and 27-25 at Bay High School. The Rockets combined a strong start with a composed finish, securing the sweep after their closest test came in an extended third set.
Bay established control with a nine-point victory in the opening set. The Rockets continued to apply pressure in the second, holding Rocky River to 19 points and moving within one set of the match. Service production helped Bay dictate play throughout the first two sets and prevented the visitors from extending the match.
Rocky River delivered its strongest response in the third set, matching Bay deep into the frame. With the set tied near the regulation finish, the Rockets had to win by two and closed out the match with a 27-25 result. That narrow finish contrasted with Bay's more comfortable margins in the first two sets and gave the Rockets a demanding final stretch before completing the sweep.
Payton Masterson led Bay's service effort with 12 points, while Camille Costin added 10. Amelia Vecchio finished with eight service points, giving the Rockets three players with at least eight apiece. Their combined work from the line accounted for much of Bay's pressure across the three sets.
Morgan Parris contributed three service points. Sloane Kerber, Addy Hoegler and Kendall Hoerig supplied two each, rounding out a balanced effort that produced 39 service points among the seven listed contributors. That depth was particularly important as the set margins tightened from nine points in the opener to six in the second and two in the third.
The Rockets will return to the court on the road against Lakewood at 6 p.m. EDT Thursday, Sept. 24. Bay will carry the momentum of a straight-set conference win into that matchup after responding to Rocky River's late push and finishing the third set in extra points.
