Rockets Take 5th Place at Nelson Howe Invitational

In early season competition, the Bay High School Rockets' boys' track team clinched 5th place at the Nelson Howe Invitational held at Firelands High School on April 4, 2025. Competing against schools such as Avon, Firelands, Brookside, Fairview, Keystone, Olmsted Falls, and North Olmsted, the Rockets showcased their mettle across a variety of events. Ben Kamm led the charge for the Rockets with a notable performance in the 200 Meters, securing 2nd place with an impressive time of 23.66 seconds given the conditions. His performance was a key highlight, setting a positive tone for the rest of the season. In middle-distance races, Brennen Lyons and Liam Jager displayed commendable stamina and speed. Lyons took 3rd place in the 800 Meters with a time of 2:10.77, while Jager finished 3rd in the 1600 Meters, clocking in at 4:50.18. The Rockets also showed strong skills in hurdles and relays, with Jack Downing and teams led by Cooper Baruxes, Evan Taulbee, Colin McAlea, and Dylan Eiler finishing in the top spots. The field events also saw standout performances. Sully Knaack threw 40 feet 6 inches in the Shot Put to finish 4th, and Dylan Eiler leaped to 3rd place in the Long Jump, covering a distance of 19 feet. The Rockets' coach expressed satisfaction with the team's efforts, noting, "We are very happy with the way the boys got after it tonight, it's early season but it's very exciting to see the results of hard work." The Rockets look to carry this momentum into their next challenge at the Avon Lake Invitational on April 5, 2025, where they will face a broader field of competitors including Avon Lake, Benedictine, and St. Edward among others.
