Rockets Tie for 11th at Comet Invitational Behind Matthew Mileti and Emmitt Naughton
Bay High School opened the 2026 boys golf season by tying for 11th place in a strong 21-team field at the Comet Invitational at Oberlin Country Club. The Rockets were the tournament’s highest-finishing Division II program, establishing an encouraging starting point against a deep field of teams.
Senior co-captain Matthew Mileti led Bay with an 86 and tied for 23rd among 121 players. Matthew Mileti set the pace with a 38 on the front nine, providing the Rockets’ low round while navigating thick rough and exceptionally fast greens that placed a premium on accuracy and course management.
Fellow senior co-captain Emmitt Naughton supplied the Rockets’ second-lowest score with an 88. Emmitt Naughton leaned on powerful driving throughout the round, giving Bay two scores below 90 at the top of its lineup and helping the team remain in the upper half of the tournament standings.
Junior Blake and sophomore Aidan Carey completed Bay’s scoring lineup in their first high-level varsity tournament. Their rounds added needed depth behind the two senior co-captains and offered valuable early-season experience on a course where missed fairways and difficult putting situations could quickly add strokes.
The opening tournament also gave the Rockets clear areas to address as the season develops. Bay will look to make smart decisions, play confidently and eliminate costly three-putts after facing Oberlin Country Club’s demanding green complexes. With two experienced co-captains setting the standard and two younger scorers entering larger roles, the Rockets have a foundation to build on after their top Division II finish.
