AVON, Ohio — A strong second-half push from the Bay Rockets Boys Basketball team was not enough to overcome a cold second quarter Tuesday night, as the Rockets dropped a 67-52 road decision to Avon in boys basketball.

Bay finished the opening quarter on a 9-2 run to grab a 14-12 lead after eight minutes, fueled by hot shooting from beyond the arc. The Rockets connected on 4 of 6 attempts from 3-point range in the first quarter to seize early momentum and briefly control the pace.

The game shifted in the second quarter, when Bay struggled to find its offensive rhythm. Avon clamped down defensively and turned stops into opportunities on the other end, outscoring the Rockets 20-4 in the frame. That surge sent Bay into the locker room trailing 32-18 at halftime after the promising start.

Avon continued to build on its advantage in the third quarter, extending the margin to 50-34 by the end of the period. While the Rockets began to show more life offensively coming out of halftime, they were unable to string together enough consecutive stops to significantly cut into the deficit before the fourth quarter.

The Rockets’ best stretch came in the second half behind the backcourt tandem of Ryan Miller and Emmitt Naughton. Miller poured in 17 of his game-high 20 points after the break, attacking the basket and knocking down perimeter shots to spark Bay’s offense. Naughton scored all 11 of his points in the second half and added three assists, helping the Rockets close the game on a more efficient and composed offensive note.

Ethan George added nine points for Bay, providing another scoring option on the perimeter. On the glass, Jack Bly pulled down five rebounds, while Brody Beggs contributed five rebounds and two steals as the Rockets fought to stay competitive on the boards and in passing lanes. Playmaker Kelan Rose helped facilitate the offense with four assists, particularly during the Rockets’ late push. Despite the loss, Bay showed resilience in the second half, outscoring Avon 34-35 over the final two quarters and responding positively after a difficult stretch before halftime.

The Rockets return home Friday, February 20th, vs Normandy for the last home game of the season and to celebrate Senior Night!
