Aurora broke the game open after halftime and handed Buckeye a 14-3 loss Monday night at Buckeye High School, turning a competitive start into a wider margin with a three-goal burst in the third quarter.

The Greenmen struck quickly, scoring three times in the first quarter and building a 5-0 lead by halftime. Buckeye spent much of the night defending extended possessions, with draw controls again proving difficult and Aurora consistently on the attack. Free-position chances also tilted the game, as Aurora finished with 14 compared with three for the Bucks.

Despite the pressure, Buckeye continued to compete. Goalkeeper Leah Droes kept the Bucks within reach with 12 saves in the crease, repeatedly stopping Aurora transition opportunities long enough for the defense to recover. Senior Andreea Ghise added several key defensive stops, and senior Natalie Clark battled in the draw circle during a stretch in which Buckeye worked to steady the game after the early deficit.

Buckeye found its first breakthrough on a determined run from junior Hailey Baisden, who carried through traffic and scored the first goal of her varsity career. The Bucks opened the second half with more energy, and junior Grace Kappele answered after absorbing a hard hit, then converting a free-position shot to cut the deficit to 6-2 in the third quarter.

Aurora responded immediately with three straight goals, a sequence that effectively decided the outcome. Buckeye still created chances, including an aggressive early push from junior Bianka Peters, who attacked the defense for three quick shots. Junior Mya Galdun provided the final Buckeye goal late in the game, turning in a hustling return to close the scoring at 14-3.

The game grew more physical as it went on, with illegal stick contact and injury stoppages adding to the tension, but Buckeye stayed together and continued to battle through the final whistle. In defeat, the Bucks showed flashes of progress against a difficult opponent, especially in goal, in transition defense and in the response after halftime.
