Balanced effort, big totals power Buckeye boys bowling past Open Door
Buckeye High School’s boys varsity bowling team turned in a dominant, all-around performance Wednesday at Medina Lanes, rolling past Open Door 2,304–2,011 behind a wave of high games and steady scoring up and down the lineup.
The Bucks set the tone in the individual games, stacking together frame after frame of quality shots to build a cushion that Open Door could never quite erase. Leading the way was John Ambrose, who was locked in all night with games of 238 and 243 for a match-high 481 series. His consistent pocket hits and clean spare shooting provided a decisive anchor for Buckeye’s varsity squad and set the standard for the rest of the lineup.
Right alongside him, Alex Marconi delivered a huge second game to help slam the door on any comeback hopes from the visitors. Marconi posted a 179 in the opener before exploding for a 243 in game two, finishing with a 422 series that gave Buckeye a powerful one-two punch at the top of the order. With Ambrose and Marconi combining for 903 pins, the Bucks carried clear momentum into the Baker portion of the match.
Buckeye’s depth proved just as important as its star power. Carter Fry added a 187 and 157 for a 344 series, while Sean Chambers turned in games of 180 and 160 for a 340 series, giving the team two more reliable scores to round out the lineup. Gavin Onyx chipped in a 168 game and Hunter Uehlein followed closely with a 163, contributions that helped keep the Bucks’ total out of reach as the teams transitioned from traditional games to Bakers.
In the Baker games, Buckeye continued to execute in the clutch, rolling team scores of 204 and 182. Those collective efforts in the anchor format showcased the Bucks’ chemistry and communication, as each bowler stepped into key frames and delivered the marks needed to close out frames and protect the lead. The strong Baker finish was the final ingredient in a complete team performance that secured the 293-pin victory.
The junior varsity boys added another bright spot for the program, cruising to a 1,709–423 win in a shortened matchup, as Open Door fielded just two bowlers at the JV level. Even with the unusual circumstances, Buckeye’s JV group maintained focus, using the opportunity to gain experience and build confidence on the home lanes.
From top to bottom, the outing at Medina Lanes reflected a Buckeye program trending in a positive direction. With Ambrose and Marconi posting standout series and the rest of the varsity lineup providing steady support, the Bucks showcased both star power and depth. As the season continues, this kind of balanced, high-scoring performance gives Buckeye strong momentum and plenty of confidence heading into the next stretch of matches.
