Balanced effort lifts Buckeye past Open Door in tight varsity match
The Bucks Women’s Bowling team edged Open Door in a tight varsity matchup Thursday at AMF Medina Lanes, earning a 1,738–1,713 victory behind a balanced lineup and clutch Baker games. Buckeye’s depth across all five varsity bowlers, capped by two solid Baker totals, proved to be just enough to hold off a late push from the visitors.
Leading the way for Buckeye was LaRyssa Hartshorn, who turned in the match’s top series with a 354 set on games of 151 and 203. Her 200-plus effort in the second game gave the Bucks the anchor performance they needed as the pins tightened and every mark started to matter more. Hartshorn’s strong finish helped create the cushion that ultimately decided the night.
Right behind her, Riley Onyx delivered a steady 307 series, rolling 142 in the opener and following with a 165 in game two. Addison Fry matched that consistency, posting back-to-back 150s for an even 300 series. With those two setting a dependable pace in the middle of the lineup, Buckeye kept the pressure on Open Door frame after frame.
The Bucks also got important contributions from the rest of the varsity rotation. Leah Kaczmarski added a 263 series on games of 133 and 130, while Sophie Osborne chipped in a 237 series with scores of 127 and 110. That kind of across-the-board scoring meant Buckeye didn’t have to rely on just one big game; instead, the team stacked quality frames across all ten pins and both team games.
Where the match truly swung, though, was in the Baker round. Buckeye posted Baker games of 132 and 145, combining for 277 in the format where all five bowlers rotate through a single game. Those two Baker totals gave the Bucks the late lift they needed to stay in front, as Open Door closed the gap but couldn’t quite overtake Buckeye’s combined team score.
With the 1,738–1,713 win, Buckeye’s girls varsity squad showed how dangerous it can be when every bowler contributes and the lineup finishes strong in Bakers. If the Bucks can keep pairing big individual sets like Hartshorn’s with the kind of team-focused Baker work they showed against Open Door, the rest of the season at AMF Medina Lanes and beyond should be fun to watch.
