Balanced Fourth-Quarter Surge Lifts Buckeye Over Rocky River, 71-65

Buckeye used a decisive fourth-quarter surge to erase a deficit and close out a 71-65 home win over Rocky River on Friday night in conference play at Buckeye High School.

Trailing by three at halftime and still down two after the third quarter, the Bucks controlled the final eight minutes, outscoring the Pirates by eight in the fourth to turn a tight contest into a six-point victory. Buckeye’s composure in late-game situations and timely shot-making proved to be the difference in a matchup that stayed within two possessions most of the night.

Senior guard Austin Hyre led the way offensively with a game-high 20 points, pacing the Bucks’ perimeter attack and consistently answering Rocky River’s scoring runs. Hyre knocked down key shots in the second half, including multiple buckets in the fourth quarter that helped Buckeye finally move in front for good. His scoring punch gave the Bucks a reliable option whenever the offense needed to settle in and find a quality look.

Buckeye’s interior and balanced scoring core backed up Hyre with three players finishing in double figures. Turner Dolata scored 13 points, providing physical play in the lane and finishing through contact as the Bucks looked to establish a presence inside. Jacob Snyderburn and Derek Snyderburn also added 13 points apiece, giving Buckeye a four-headed attack that kept Rocky River from keying on any single scorer.

That balance became especially important after halftime. Rocky River carried a slim advantage into the break and maintained a two-point edge after three quarters, but Buckeye’s defense tightened in the fourth, limiting clean looks on the perimeter and forcing the Pirates deeper into the shot clock. The Bucks turned several stops into transition chances and early offense, fueling the eight-point margin in the final quarter that swung the game.

The win continues a strong stretch for Buckeye, which has now posted back-to-back 70-plus-point outings, including an earlier 71-57 home victory over Bay. With multiple players proving capable of leading the scoring on any given night and the team showing it can finish games in the fourth quarter, the Bucks carry momentum into the heart of conference play.

Buckeye improved to 71 points behind Hyre’s 20 and the trio of 13-point performances from Turner Dolata, Jacob Snyderburn and Derek Snyderburn, while Rocky River finished with 65 in the closely contested conference matchup.
