Balanced lineup, big series lift Buckeye boys bowling past Columbia
MEDINA — A deep, balanced effort across the lineup powered the Buckeye boys varsity bowling team to a 2,188–1,747 victory over Columbia on Wednesday at Medina Lanes.
Buckeye built its advantage behind a pair of strong traditional games, led by Alex Marconi’s match-high 431 series. Marconi opened with a 230 and followed with a 201 to pace the Bucks at the top of the order and help establish a cushion that Columbia could not overcome.
John Ambrose provided a major boost in the middle of the lineup, rolling 191 and 208 for a 399 series that kept Buckeye in control through the second game. Kevin Miller added key scoring depth with games of 185 and 193, finishing at 378 and giving the Bucks three bowlers over the 375 mark in traditional play.
Buckeye also picked up important contributions from the rest of its rotation. Sean Chambers turned in a 214 game, while Gavin Onyx added a 150 to the Bucks’ total. Additional support came from SAW, who chipped in games of 134 and 157 as Buckeye continued to widen its overall pinfall margin.
In Baker play, the Bucks stayed steady to close out the match, posting games of 167 and 158. Those team frames, highlighted by timely marks throughout the lineup, allowed Buckeye to maintain its lead and finish off the 441-pin win.
With the 2,188 total and several bowlers turning in series near or above the 400 mark, Buckeye’s performance against Columbia underscored both its depth and potential as the season continues at Medina Lanes and beyond.
