Balanced scoring, 2-3 zone lift Bucks past Beech Grove 61-56

Richmond, Ind. — Buckeye High School’s Bucks men’s basketball team closed out its trip to the Bob Wettig Tournament with a methodical 61-56 win over Beech Grove on Tuesday, riding a disciplined 2-3 zone defense and balanced scoring to a five-point victory.

The Bucks committed to an effective 2-3 zone from the opening tip, keeping Beech Grove uncomfortable in the half court and turning the matchup into a low-scoring, possession-by-possession battle. That defensive focus helped Buckeye grind out a slim one-point lead by halftime, setting the stage for a steady second-half push. The Bucks then edged Beech Grove in both the third and fourth quarters, never allowing the Hornets to put together a decisive run.

Offensively, Buckeye leaned on a deep core of contributors rather than a single standout, with four players reaching double figures. Austin Hyre led the way with 17 points, consistently finding gaps in the defense and providing timely baskets to stop Beech Grove surges. His production helped the Bucks maintain control as the game tightened late.

Zak Stough added 16 points, giving Buckeye another reliable scoring option on the perimeter. Turner Dolata was a key factor inside with 14 points, battling on the interior and finishing around the rim against Beech Grove’s front line. Rounding out the group, Derek Snyderburn chipped in 11 points, adding balance to the attack and forcing the Hornets to defend the floor sideline to sideline.

While the Bucks’ offense found its rhythm after halftime, the foundation of the win remained on the defensive end.
